History of IB @ John Adams High School
John Adams High School has been an IB World School since we were accredited in the spring of 2006. Our first diploma class in 2008 consisted of 10 students. As of August 2021, we have 265 students enrolled in IB classes. Of those, 25 are Diploma candidates in the Class of 2022 and 33 are Anticipated Diploma candidates in the Class of 2023. Our enrollment for testing has increased dramatically since the early years. Our program is well respected in our community and within the state of Indiana, where we rank among the top public schools in the state for IB Diploma graduation rates (23 IB Diplomas awarded in 2021) and student involvement.
John Adams is a Magnet School that has admitted well over 250 freshmen each year in the past five years, with the intent of pursuing the IB Diploma or DP Course results in their Junior and Senior year. The Freshman and Sophomore year courses are designed to prepare the student for the rigor of the IB program. Students are encouraged to take courses are at the honors, honors advanced, and AP level.
The IB Diploma Program is a thorough, engaging and academically-advanced curriculum. Highly sought by universities, IB students are well prepared for college and life.
Unlike individual AP classes that focus on specific topics the IB diploma is holistic and all-encompassing. It gives our students broad knowledge and skills that go beyond most high school offerings. In each content area, IB standards and objectives have been tested and refined for over five decades. IB students learn more than a collection of facts. They learn how to learn. They participate in class discussions and ask challenging questions. They develop a strong sense of identity, which helps them communicate with and understand people from diverse cultures.
Even students who do not participate in an IB course will benefit from our faculty's advanced teaching methodology and training, which many teachers incorporate into both their IB and non-IB courses.
