Students and Parents:

We have 7 E-Learning days left for the remainder of the school year.  Please make sure that you finish strong. Keep completing your E-Learning assignments!  We want to make sure that everyone finishes the school year on track for graduation.  We are still waiting to hear about locker clean out, graduation, cap and gown distribution and many other items.  Please reach out if you have any questions.  Here are some updates.

AP Exams

This week begins the Advanced Placement exams for those students who are signed up to take the AP exams.  These students must check in with their AP instructor today through email for instructions on the exam.  Please make sure you take care of this today.

Senior Survey

All Seniors and early graduates need to complete the Senior Survey sent to them by Ms. Berebitsky.  Here is the link again: Senior Survey

Graduates need to share with us their plans for next year and any scholarships they have earned.

Post High School Plans

Any graduates that do not have plans for next year yet need to contact their counselor.  We normally have many opportunities in school for this, but will need to work through this virtually.  This is very important as we want every graduate to have the best post-secondary opportunities possible.

Picture Sent to Mr. Seitz

If you are graduating and have not sent your picture yet to Mr. Seitz please do so.  You should include your plans for next year, including your major.

Senior Sign

If you are a graduating senior or early graduate and did not receive a senior yard sign, please email Mr. Seitz.  We would like to thank the parents group and all of your teachers for delivering these signs last week.  We delivered 406 personalized signs.

If you have any questions please let us know.

Thank you

Good afternoon, students and parents of John Adams High School.  This is principal Jim Seitz calling with a few important announcements.  Today the Governor of Indiana announced that we will not have any in person classes for the remainder of the school year.  I know that you have many questions regarding graduation, cleaning out your locker, finishing assignments, earning credits, etc..  Once we have answers to these questions we will let everyone know. As we wind down the first full week of E-Learning we wanted to reach out to you with some important information.  We greatly appreciate everyone’s hard work and feedback over the past two weeks. Please keep working hard on your classes and make sure that check-in with your teachers each day.  Here are a few important items:

  • E-Learning will not take place on Friday’s.  Please enjoy your day off.

  • Spring break will be the week of April 6th – April 10th.  Hopefully the weather is nice so you can spend some time outside, but please remember to follow the orders put in place by the Governor

  • Unfortunately, we did not have an opportunity to bring the League of Women Voters in to help register all students who are going to be 18 by November 3, 2020.  Please register to vote at https://indianavoters.in.gov/.

  • We have set up a Covid-19 update page on our website in both Spanish and English for you and your parents to check for reference. http://adams.sb.school/c_o_v_i_d-19_closure_info

  • Starting Monday, March 30, JA Study Tables will be moving online.  We will offer virtual Study Tables Monday - Thursday from 8:00-9:00 AM, 1:00-2:00 PM, and 4:00-5:00 PM.   During each session, 2-3 teachers will be available to help students with assignments or to just check in face-to-face.   Students can join the session by logging into their SBCSC account and using the link https://meet.google.com/yog-ucau-fkw

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any member of the JA Faculty if you need anything.  I would also like to give a huge thank you to all of your teachers. Padres y estudiantes:

He aquí algunas noticias importantes:

Gracias

Good Evening, parents and students of John Adams High School.

This is principal Jim Seitz calling with a few important announcements.  We hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy during this unprecedented time.  We have seen many wonderful forms of instruction over the past four days.  We greatly appreciate the hard work from our students, teachers and parents.  Obviously in light of the Governor’s announcement this week we will not have in-person classes until at least May 1st.  There is a great deal of unknowns over the next several weeks.  I want to make sure that we are communicating with you as best as we can.  We have some updates on schedules and some systems that we are going to put in place.

Here are some bullet points:

  • We have received some great feedback from students and teachers about E-Learning. In light of this, we will only have E-Learning on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Friday will be a planning day for teachers.
  • Please make sure that students are signing into their google classrooms on these days and communicating with teachers regularly.  It is also important that students check their emails every day.
  • Credit redemption is currently suspended.  This means that students will not need to “make up” any credit redemption from the 3rd quarter.  Depending on what happens in May we may look at revisiting this, but for the time being, students should not worry about credit recovery.
  • Please check the school corporation’s website for meal pick up locations and Wi-Fi locations.  We encourage everyone to take advantage of these options.
  • All ISTEP testing is suspended for this school year.  We are still waiting to hear from IB and AP about these exams.

My hope is that we can still provide our students with the “normal” end of the year activities.  We will do whatever we can possibly do to make events like Prom and Graduation happen for our students.  Please continue to encourage your student, especially seniors, who are really going through a difficult time.  If any of our students need to reach out to me or any members of the JA faculty please do not hesitate to reach out.

Thank you.  Have a great night and Go Eagles!

We have seen many wonderful forms of instruction over the past four days.

Good Morning Eagles,

I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy during the current school closure.  This is obviously unprecedented times and a great deal of unknowns currently exist in our lives. I want to applaud all of you for the manner in which you have approached this situation.  You have all stayed calm and reacted in a very mature manner.  Please know that all of your teachers, administrators, counselors and all adults at Adams are here to support you.

Please make sure that you communicate with us as we navigate the school closure. I wish that I could give you some concrete answers, but we simply do not have many answers to some of the questions you may have.  What we do know is that we need to continue to learn as much as we can and continue to work hard on our studies.  Growing up in the age of computers, social media and alternative ways of learning, I believe that you are more prepared than any other generation to continue your education in a situation like this.  You are intelligent, resilient and strong willed, but some of you can also procrastinate.  While I don’t expect you to complete two weeks’ worth of work each day, we do ask that you check in with your classes each day and stay on top of your work.  This will help your teachers and most importantly you.

Here are a few items that are important for you over the next few days:

1.  We are aware of the situation with the attendance on Power School.  I believe that some of you were seeing absences show up that were not actually absences from early in the school year.  Please do not worry about these.  This will be corrected.

2.  Please stay on top of your E-Learning and check in with your teacher and your assignments each day.  You also need to check your email each day that would typically be a school day.

3.  Comcast is offering free Wi-Fi for those who need it at https://www.internetessentials.com/.  SBCSC will also be parking buses in different locations.  Please be on the look out for these locations as you will be able to use the Wi-Fi.

4.  The School district is offering Grab-and-Go lunch and dinner for student from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 11 sites every day school would have otherwise been in session:

Please do not hesitate to reach out to anyone at Adams if you need anything.  We are here to support each and every one of our students.

Stay well and thank you,

Mr. Seitz and the JA Faculty

  • Brown Community Learning Center - 737 Beale St., South Bend, IN, 46616
  • Darden Elementary - 18645 Janet St., South Bend, IN 46637
  • Coquillard Elementary - 1245 N Sheridan St., South Bend, IN, 46628
  • Harrison Elementary - 3302 W Western Ave., South Bend, IN 46619
  • Lincoln Elementary - 1425 E Calvert St., South Bend, IN 46613
